UPPER CRAMER LAKE

The Cramer Lakes are reached via a 15-mile round-trip hike from the Redfish Lake inlet. To reach the inlet, you can take a boat shuttle ($17 round-trip) from the Redfish Lake lodge. Otherwise, you will need to add several more miles onto the hike. I visited the Cramer Lakes over Labor Day Weekend as part of a four-day backpacking trip in the area. From our base camp near the Redfish Lake Creek/Alpine Lake Trail Junction it was only about nine miles round-trip. The trail up to the lakes is not very steep (especially compared to the other hikes in the area) and takes you through a thick forest along Redfish Lake Creek.

The first lake you will come to, Lower Cramer Lake, is not too spectacular, but the next lake, Middle Cramer Lake, is. It has a nice waterfall feeding water into it on its far end and a nice mountain backdrop. From Middle Cramer Lake, it is not far at all to Upper Cramer Lake, which is also very scenic. From Upper Cramer Lake we continued on the trail as it lead us through a beautiful meadow and a short climb leading to more pleasant lakes and ponds.
